 The workshop will be an overview of the key people management activities that all lab managers must accomplish.  The workshop will be ideal for those new to a people management role, or for those with experience who would like to polish some of their people management skills.  The workshop will highlight these areas of people management:
• Effective objectives using the SMART approach
• Effective performance reviews and having the right review conversation
• Development of performance improvement plans to correct performance issues
• Development of individual development plans to guide the path of high performers and those approaching a promotion
• Development of a business case to add staff
• How to recruit new staff
• Interviewing and selection of new staff
• Implementation of on-boarding for new staff
• Knowledge retention and succession-planning
• Having difficult conversations with staff
